"He is risen! He is risen indeed!"
As I contemplated these words this morning, it struck me that Easter is one of the primary motivating factors in our decision to move to Croatia. The hope of resurrection and eternal life is too great to be kept to ourselves. We must share this good news.
Nearly 98% of all Croatians are Catholic in terms of religion and national identity. However, less than 1/3 attend mass regularly. The reality is that many of our neighbors there are questioning the validity and impact of religion on their lives. We understand where they are coming from. We also know the frustration and emptiness that can accompany the pursuit of religion and rule keeping.
In Zagreb, we'll strive to point the way to the relationship and resurrection Jesus offers each of us who will trust in Him. We believe the hope of these life-altering realities will resonate with our friends in Croatia in the same way they have with us. Jesus invites us to experience him, to know him, to love him, and be loved by him. As believers we gain righteousness not by the rules we keep, but by the company we keep. And because of the promise of Easter, we're in good company...in relationship with a resurrected King who is resurrecting us!
"He is risen! He is risen, indeed!"
I can't think of any more important reason for our family to go to Croatia!
